As bitcoin’s price soars, I’m having fun and staying poor I am enjoying myself and not making money despite the rising price of bitcoin.

I received my salary in bitcoin for an extended period, although it was not necessarily by choice. I was not a bitcoin enthusiast trying to demonstrate that bitcoin was the superior form of currency. I used to work as a crypto journalist for smaller publications and companies that had no other method to pay me. Despite bitcoin approaching its previous peak this week, ranging from $64,000 to $69,000 depending on the source (or potentially even $79,000 with inflation considered), you might assume that I am wealthy enough to stop working and live off my bitcoin earnings once Coinbase allows me to sell. However, I have never actively invested money in the cryptocurrency market. I never held onto bitcoin as an investment, I used it as a currency like dollars, euros, or pesos. When the value of bitcoin rises, there are often stories online of people who regret spending large amounts of bitcoin on a single purchase. However, my story is not like those. Similar to Laszlo Hanyecz, who is well-known for purchasing two pizzas with 10,000 BTC, I have no feelings of remorse regarding my own bitcoin spending choices. I acknowledge that this viewpoint may not be typical. However, it is evident from my column that I do not fit the typical mold of a crypto enthusiast. I enjoy writing and observing unusual events, so covering crypto is a perfect fit for me. Although I don’t have a strong interest in investing in cryptocurrency beyond what is necessary for my writing, being paid in bitcoin as a young journalist just starting out was a better introduction to the world of crypto than buying it on an exchange would have been. I am actually grateful to bitcoin for providing me with valuable experience in an industry that has shaped my career, rather than being disappointed about not profiting enough from its price fluctuations. Receiving my salary in bitcoin helped me immerse myself in this innovative and intricate field that I was required to grasp quickly.
