JP Morgan’s Jamie Dimon: ‘I’ll Defend Your Right to Buy Bitcoin’ Jamie Dimon from JP Morgan stated that he will support and protect individuals’ freedom to purchase Bitcoin.

Jamie Dimon, the CEO of JP Morgan Chase, remains critical of Bitcoin but acknowledges and respects individual decisions to invest in it. Despite being a vocal critic of the cryptocurrency, Dimon believes its primary use is by criminals, drug traffickers, money launderers, and tax evaders. At the Australian Financial Review business summit, the CEO of the largest American bank expressed ongoing criticism of Bitcoin, as reported by Reuters. However, he also mentioned his support for individual rights to purchase Bitcoin, likening it to defending the right to smoke a cigarette. He later asked why governments tolerate cryptocurrencies after initially stating he would no longer discuss Bitcoin, particularly on CNBC. Over the years, he has consistently criticized the largest cryptocurrency as well as smaller virtual coins. In the previous year, he suggested that he would shut it down if he were in charge. He has consistently expressed disapproval of crypto, including Bitcoin, in the past. In 2017, he labeled Bitcoin as a “fraud” and disapproved of his daughter’s investment in the popular cryptocurrency. However, his bank, JPMorgan Chase, utilizes blockchain technology in its payment system through JPM Coin. Dimon is a strong advocate for artificial intelligence, believing that advancements in AI will lead to significant improvements in healthcare and longevity, stating that technology will enable future generations to live longer and healthier lives. During the conference, Dimon mentioned that he utilizes artificial intelligence at both his home and workplace, using it to summarize books he doesn’t have the time to read.
