Nigeria Detains Binance’s Key Crypto Crime Investigator, Details Inside Nigeria has arrested the main investigator of cryptocurrency crimes at Binance
According to a recent Wired report, Nigerian authorities have detained two senior executives from Binance cryptocurrency exchange, Tigran Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, without their consent. The families of the detained executives are seeking information and explanations. The recent arrest is believed to be linked to Nigeria’s decision to prohibit cryptocurrency exchanges because of the severe devaluation of the country’s currency, the naira. The government of Nigeria has accused exchanges such as Binance of causing the devaluation of its currency and enabling the transfer of illegal funds. Gambaryan and Anjarwalla traveled to Abuja on February 25 to discuss the government’s issues. Although Gambaryan is a citizen of the United States and Anjarwalla has citizenship in both Britain and Kenya, their families are extremely worried about the limited communication regarding their circumstances. Gambaryan’s wife, Yuki Gambaryan, told Wire:. There is no clear answer to anything: his well-being, his future, his return date. The lack of knowledge is causing great distress for me. As per the report, the executives were brought to a government residence managed by Nigeria’s National Security Agency following their meeting with Nigerian officials. Their passports were confiscated, and they have been detained for two weeks without their consent, while Nigerian government officials supervised visits from representatives from the US and UK. Binance has refrained from responding to the allegations or requests made by the Nigerian government for the release of the executives.
