Gyeonggi Province in South Korea has successfully recovered $4.6 million from individuals who evaded taxes on cryptocurrency. This significant amount was obtained using an innovative digital tracking system. This signals a groundbreaking improvement in how the country recovers taxes. The introduction of the digital tracking system has made it easier to identify and collect taxes from those evading crypto taxes. By using the local registration numbers of offenders, also referred to as delinquents in South Korea, authorities were able to discover the linked mobile numbers. These mobile numbers were used to follow connected accounts on different cryptocurrency exchanges. This new method significantly decreased the amount of time needed to retrieve information from cryptocurrency exchanges. This has reduced the time frame from six months to just 503 days. The tracing efforts were successful, revealing 5,910 individuals who owe significant amounts, each surpassing $2262. An impressive $4.6 million was retrieved from just 2,390 people in the last year. Additionally, Samsung and Mirae Asset in South Korea have stopped offering Bitcoin ETFs due to an alert.
