Pharmaceutical supply chain and technology firm Wellgistics Health has announced it will integrate XRP as a treasury asset and payments infrastructure across its pharmacy network.
The $50 million capital facility, structured as an equity line, was arranged through LDA Capital, a private alternative investment group with prior involvement in crypto-backed funding strategies.
The agreement allows Wellgistics to draw funds at its discretion, potentially issuing shares in exchange for capital. The move positions the firm to accelerate the deployment of its XRP-powered payment framework across over 6,000 independent pharmacies and over 150 contracted manufacturers nationwide.
XRP will serve dual functions in the system: first, as a balance sheet holding, and second, as the native asset to facilitate on-ledger payments between pharmacies, distributors, and manufacturers.
By operating through the XRP Ledger, Wellgistics aims to bypass traditional ACH systems and reduce transaction times from days to seconds while cutting transfer fees to fractions of a cent. According to statements from company executives, the model is designed to provide faster rebate settlements and credit provisioning for pharmacy partners, potentially improving liquidity and operational efficiency.
Wellgistics CEO Brian Norton said in the announcement that the firm is “challenging the idea that healthcare has to be tethered to legacy systems.” He described the new structure as a move toward disintermediating slow, manual finance flows within healthcare logistics, saying,
“I strongly believe that our XRP initiative positions Wellgistics Health years ahead of the curve-and squarely at the center of where healthcare and fintech converge.”
CFO Mark DiSiena noted the XRP framework was designed to “unlock capital velocity with surgical precision.”
The decision coincides with mounting infrastructure around XRP in institutional markets. CME Group is set to launch two cash-settled futures contracts for XRP on May 19, micro contracts at 2,500 XRP and standard lots at 50,000 XRP.
These will provide regulated exposure to the token through the Chicago Mercantile Exchange and are expected to contribute to broader price discovery and liquidity for XRP. While the futures products are not connected to Wellgistics’ operations, their debut may help reduce risk perceptions around XRP as a corporate holding or transaction asset.
The initiative emerges as part of Wellgistics’ broader strategic realignment. The company has expanded its focus to therapeutic segments such as GLP-1 drugs and Long-Term COVID solutions.
As with any corporate crypto initiative, regulatory clarity remains a factor. XRP’s legal classification in the United States has been the subject of intense litigation. While Ripple has secured partial victories, no comprehensive federal framework yet governs the asset’s use in institutional treasury or payments. However, with the current SEC alignment and White House backing for crypto, serious future roadblocks are becoming increasingly less likely.
Moreover, the equity line structure implies potential shareholder dilution if the facility is drawn extensively. Neither the expected draw schedule nor the implementation date for the XRP payments system has been disclosed.
Wellgistics’ integration of XRP into its financial and operational systems marks a shift toward digital asset adoption within an industry historically reliant on multi-day bank settlement cycles.
The firm’s payment rails and treasury configuration are now poised to operate on a distributed ledger infrastructure designed to compress capital timelines and reduce administrative overhead.
